Walk 5: I walk in your name
Walking for my roommate.
I decided to approach my roommate for a prompt for this walk, her initial response was that whenever she goes on walks it brings out the past in her.
She created a prompt for me to walk and reminisce on my past, but instead I reminisced for her past, her memories. In the name of her I walked for her past as she yearns for childhood.
The prompt she gave me:
"Honoring childhood me, walk with imagination, walk with the intention to create magical things out of the things you see on your walk"
I used a childlike view on the world to honor her childhood, making sketches of what I saw in magical forms.
On this walk, I encountered only a few people. My mindset focused on my roommate, thinking of her childhood versus her life now. Doing a walk dedicated to someone else was a task I have never done before alone. Walking in the name of someone, of something, I have done before with large groups of people. Alone, in a quiet neighborhood, I am able to fully dedicate everything I think and see to her.
I found that everything looked different although I was in my neighborhood. Following her prompt, I was able to realize the way I looked at the world everyday lacked the magic she asked me to see. Is that what she is missing in her life now? The difference between how we look at the world as a kid versus an adult is prominent and it slowly changes over time without us noticing. This was the realization from my walk, I would have never looked at the world this way without my roommate.
Hi Sage! This was a really interesting thing to walk for, I found your comparison between seeing everything through a child's perspective compared to an adult to be great, especially the detail about how children look at the world with magic and wonder. It also really shows through your sketches.
ReplyDeleteHi! I love how you approached this assignment! Your post seems very heartfelt and the reflective addition at the end really ties everything together. The inclusion of drawings was a really nice touch as well. Was there any reason why you chose those objects to create magical forms into? Or did it just simply feel right at the moment? Either way, good job!
ReplyDeleteThis reflection is beautifully tender and perceptive. Your quiet dedication turns an ordinary walk into an act of care, showing how perspective and love can quietly reshape how we see the world.
